A refusal. A reclamation.
This piece challenges the narrative that queerness and trans identity are “modern” or “Western”, instead pointing to the colonial roots of transphobia itself. Through a figure that evokes fluidity, power, and pre-colonial expressions of gender, the work reclaims identity as something expansive, embodied, and ancestral.
The statement is direct: transphobia is colonial. What has been imposed can be questioned, unlearned, and undone.
Created as part of Malini Chakrabarty’s practice exploring history, power, and resistance, this print is both a provocation and an affirmation.
