Privacy Policy
We're an independent art studio, not a data company. This page explains, in plain English, what information we collect, why, and what your rights are. The short version: we collect only what we need to get art to your door, we never sell your data, and you can ask us to delete it anytime.
Who we are: Art of Birdie Studio, based in Glasgow, Scotland, operated by Malini Chakraborty. We're the "data controller" for the information described here. Contact us about anything privacy-related at info@artofbirdie.com.
What we collect, and why
When you place an order, we collect your name, email, delivery address, and order details so we can fulfil your order, send you updates about it, and meet our legal obligations (like tax records).
Lawful basis: performing our contract with you, and legal obligation.
Payment details are collected and processed directly by Shopify Payments / PayPal. We never see or store your card number.
When you join Prana Mail, we additionally store your subscription status and billing history so we can bill you correctly and send your monthly parcel.
When you sign up to our newsletter or a waitlist, we store your email so we can send you the thing you asked for. We only email you if you've opted in, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe, which you can withdraw anytime.
When you contact us, we keep the correspondence so we can help you and remember what we agreed.
When you browse the site, Shopify and our analytics tools collect technical data (device type, pages visited, rough location) via cookies. See our Cookie Policy for the full picture and how to opt out.
Lawful basis: consent for non-essential cookies; legitimate interest for keeping the site secure and working.
Who we share it with
Only the services that make the shop run. Never anyone who'd sell to you on our behalf:
-
Shopify — hosts our store and processes orders (our main data processor)
-
[Shopify Payments / PayPal] — payment processing
-
[Royal Mail / courier] — receives your name and address to deliver your parcel
-
[Shopify Email / Mailchimp] — sends our newsletter to people who opted in
-
[Meta / TikTok / Pinterest / Google] — only if you consent to marketing cookies; see Cookie Policy
Some of these providers (like Shopify) are based outside the UK. Where data leaves the UK, it's protected by recognised safeguards such as the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.
We will never sell your personal data. Full stop.
How long we keep it
Order and billing records: 6 years (UK tax law requires it).
Newsletter emails: until you unsubscribe.
Customer service messages: 2 years.
Abandoned-cart and analytics data: per Shopify's standard retention.
When data is no longer needed, it's deleted.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us, at any time, to: access the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, port it elsewhere, or withdraw consent (e.g. unsubscribe). Email info@artofbirdie.com and we'll respond within one month, usually much faster, because there's one of us and we care.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) though we'd be grateful for the chance to put it right first.
A few last things
Children. Our store isn't directed at under-16s and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes. If we update this policy, we'll change the date below; significant changes will be flagged on the site.
